• Learn the definition of Anxiety as stated in the DSM IV (a psychological guide used by Clinical Counselors).
• Learn the relationship of (Stress) Anxiety’s relationship to oral diseases such as clenching, bruxism, periodontal disease, burning month, biting cheek and tongue, leukoplakia.
• Learn the basics of Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction approach to health.
• Learn New and Applied Simple Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction tools that have been scientifically proven to decrease Anxiety.
• Learn how to teach these simple Mindfulness skills to patients to help decrease their anxiety.

This course uses as its foundation the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction work of Jon Kabat-Zinn Ph.D., founder of the Mindfulness Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, MA. This work is known as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction or MBSR.
Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction and its Clinical Application in Dentistry offers a way for the dental team to apply Mindfulness clinically to assist the dental patient both in the dental office and as well in daily life for better oral health. The program focuses on skillful techniques helping the dental team be mindful and present in the moment by studying and practicing mindfulness of body, breath, senses, and environment. This is a special opportunity for an Internship with Nancy Hathaway on Mindfulnes-based Stress Reduction. Based on the work of Jon Kabit-Zinn, Ph.D., Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction 8 Week Training is about studying and practicing Mindfulness in everyday life. Participants commit to attending all eight weeks unless permission is given by the instructor and to practicing for 45 minutes/day Mindfulness techniques taught in class. A Day of Mindfulness will be held on Sunday, June 3rd from 11am - 5pm. In this Internship special time of one hour will be held after each 2 hour weekly class and after the Day of Mindfulness to process, learn, discuss Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction from a teaching prospective.

This is the second day of a two day Zen and Psychology Intensive for Counselors. This day of walking meditation will be on lands local to the Zendo. The day will begin with a circle and a short sitting meditation. The walk will begin in silence in the Zendo Moss Garden. From there we will walk in Nature Preserves in woods and near Morgan Bay. A silent picnic lunch will be eaten in silence except for the sounds of nature. The afternoon will bring another walk with stops by the Bay ending our walk in the Zendo Moss Garden followed by a short sitting and circle in the Zendo.
